Principado de Andorra
The snow country
The capital of the principality is now more hidden than before the construction of the new parliament building, La Casa de la Vall. It is not a museum but a very iconic monument in which we will find beautiful Gothic frescoes inside. It was built in 1580 and was acquired in 1702 by the General Council and is where there have been held over the years the meetings of political and legislative debate. But currently is being finalized the construction of a modern building a few meters away, which will replace of its functions the old Casa de la Vall shortly. It is one of the most visited monuments by the Andorran public.
Meritxell Sanctuary. It is a modern building design that was developed by architect Ricardo Bofill after a fire in the old Romanesque chapel, which is right next door, and where you can see the permanent exhibition Memoria Meritxell. Each September 8 is celebrated there the festival of Meritxell, patron of Andorra.
In last decades, Andorra has specialized in a type of tourism closely linked with nature, concerned about the environment and willing to bring you healthy experiences in its prodigious valleys and mountains. Among them we’ll find the Madriu PerafitaValley – Claror in Escaldes – Engordany, declared by Unesco World Heritage. In recent years, the principality of Andorra has developed a strong and extensive offer on health, wellness and relaxation tourism-related , while still being the shopping paradise of alcohol, snuff and perfumes, the most requested products by its favorable price differential.
